Starting this busy Sunday off just right with a cup of delicious espresso & some fun tunes. Today will be full of good company, the beach, and hopefully a short run before the weather hits record highs!
As promised, here is a recap of our trip to rural Two Rivers, WI home of the Hamilton Wood Type and Printing Museum. Founded in 1880, J.E. Hamilton Holly Wood Type Company, was once the largest manufacturer of wood type in the United States. “Hamilton is the only museum dedicated to the preservation, study, production and printing of wood type.” Being a lover of typography, visiting this gem was a must!
The day began with a 45 min tour of the working museum (you can even hold the wood letterforms stored away in the drawers – so awesome!) followed by a short demonstration on how to use a sign press. We were then our way to spend the next 7 hours printing wood type. With a plethora of type & an empty palette, my heart was racing with so much excitement. I couldn’t even convince myself to walk away from the press to use the restroom. seriously. I’m obsessed – need one of these in my home pronto!
If you’re interested in the history of wood type or simply want a fun & interesting way to spend your Saturday afternoon I highly recommend you sign up for their letterpress workshop! The people running this museum are fantastic, helpful and full of knowledge! What are you waiting for? Go sign up now!
Off to enjoy what’s left of the long weekend! Hope you are, too!
xx
